DAILY CONGREGATIONAL PRAYERS, WEEK 52, November 28-December 4, 2021, 2 Chronicles 26

WEEK 52, DAY 1, Fifty-two

“……and he reigned fifty-two years in Jerusalem.” vs 3

Holy God, direct me to humbly learn from this text. Direct us in this text. Keep our eyes fixed on You, Your Glory, and Your Ways. It is Your Work, Your Will, and Your Way. In Christ. Amen

WEEK 52, DAY 2, 52

“And all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah.” vs 1, “Uzziah was sixteen years old when he began to reign, and he reigned 52 years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jecoliah of Jerusalem. And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD….” vs 3-4

Father, thank You for the written Chronicles of Your people and what You expect from us. Nothing that comes to us is separate from Your provision. You expect us to remember. In this we thank You for the value of these ancient stories and the Christ Who in His Perfection made it possible for us to be with You. Amen

“He (Uzziah) set himself to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God, and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him prosper.” vs 5

Such a frightening phrase, Father. “As long as he (Uzziah) sought the LORD.” Assimilation into surrounding customs and culture, TV and media, habits and customs, thoughts and dismissals, a tendency away from instead of toward You, can happen one pebble of sand at a time. Save us from ourselves, O God. We love You. Help us keep our eyes fixed on Your Ways. Psalm 119:15. Amen

WEEK 52, DAY 4, Fifty-two

“Uzziah broke the walls of the Philistines at Gath, Jabneh, and Ashdod. He built cities…. God helped him against the Philistines and against the Arabians…. The Ammonites paid tribute to him, and his fame spread even to the border of Egypt, for he became very strong.” vs 6-8. He built fortified towers, cut out many cisterns, had large herds, farmers, vinedressers, and loved the soil. He had large armies with mighty power, made machines, etc. “And his fame spread far, for he was marvelously helped, till he was strong.” vs 15

Why, Holy God, do humans hate prosperity, Your prosperity of righteousness? It is so easy to squander the relationship we are offered by You. Your Son warned us, died for us, and sent us Holy Spirit. When I read this story, the tension increases as King Uzziah grows in strength. So how different is that for me? For us? Help us, Father. Lord Jesus, save us from our pride. Amen

WEEK 52, DAY 5, 52

“But…” vs 16

Do we hear the groaning of Holy Spirit?

“But when he was strong, he grew proud, to his destruction. For he was unfaithful to the LORD his God and entered the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense. But Azariah the priest went in after him, with 80 priests of the LORD who were men of valor, and they withstood King Uzziah and said to him, ‘It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the LORD, but for the priests, the sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense. Go out of the sanctuary for you have done wrong, and it will bring you no honor from the Lord God.’ Then Uzziah was angry. Now he had a censer in his hand to burn incense, and when he became angry with the priests, leprosy broke out on his forehead in the presence of the priests in the House of the Lord, by the altar of incense.” vs 16ff

Why, Lord Jesus, do we so frequently insert the “but” into the stories of our lives? Holy God sent You. Please help us follow You. Amen

WEEK 52, DAY 7, Fifty-two

“And they rushed him out quickly, and he himself hurried to go out, because the LORD had struck him. And King Uzziah was a leper to the day of his death, and being a leper lived in a separate house, for he was excluded from the House of the Lord.” vs 21

Heavenly Father, forgive me my pride. Please, Father. Forgive us our pride. In our tracks, may we drop our defenses while we drop our puffed-up stance.

Fifty-two years, LII months, 52 weeks, fifty-two days, 52 steps, LII miles, fifty-two light years, all pale and mean nothing without You. You direct us. That is our responsibility to follow You. Help us to follow until You say is it enough. Our Lord and Savior obeyed to completion of His tasks on earth. Because of Him, we ask You to help us complete whatever it is You set before us. Help us seek You. Amen

WEEK 51, DAY 1, Thanksgiving

So, Noah came out together with his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives. All the animals and all the creatures... came out of the ark one kind after another. Then Noah built an altar to the LORD and taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds he sacrificed bird offerings on it. The LORD smelled the pleasing aroma and said in His heart: “Never again will I curse the ground because of man...” Genesis 8: 18-22

Holy God, there is no one like You. I would suspect Noah and his family were exceedingly grateful to be on dry ground again. When we tell these stories, may gratitude overcome us, recognizing the tenderness You Almighty God give to Your created. Why You want to save us is surely Your business. It doesn't seem logical unless we consider Your absolute mercy. Amen and Amen.

WEEK 51, DAY 2, Thanksgiving

Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what He had promised. Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age at the very time God had promised him. Abraham gave the name Isaac to the son Sarah bore him. Sarah said, “God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.” And she added, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.”    Genesis 21: 1- 7

Father, we are grateful for the inclusion so many stories of our history, many of which are not perfectly clean. Sarah and Abraham were not perfect people as You demonstrate in Scripture. They interfered with Your perfect plan causing dissension that is present even today between peoples and nations. Yet your Plan of salvation came through this line. Their interference fostered antipathy of huge magnitude. We must be careful what we ask for, short sighted people that we are. Nevertheless, You protected this line of Your Covenant/Promise and delivered it generations later in the perfect Son of Man, Son of God. May we ever be grateful. In Christ, amen.

WEEK 51, DAY 3, Thanksgiving

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17

I and the Father are One. John 10:30, ESV.       The Father and I are One. John 10:30, NRSV

Heavenly Father, I am grateful for these sentences of scripture. There can be no mistake that You Holy God are You Holy Spirit, and You and the Savior are One.

You are You.

Will You forgive our finite minds as we try to comprehend one God but Three Persons? We offer thanksgiving remembering we live in hope for the Day we return to You, seeing You clearly and knowing YHWH is The Spirit is The Anointed Savior. Because of You, there is freedom. Amen

WEEK 51, DAY 4, Thanksgiving

On the way to Jerusalem, He was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered a village, he was met by 10 lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” When He saw them, He said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. Then one of them when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus feet, giving Him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan.

Then Jesus answered, “Were not 10 cleansed Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?”

And He said to him, “Come rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.” Luke 17 11-19

Heavenly Father, our Lord was indignant because the nine did not come back (unbelievable) and failed to praise Your Name (incredulous). Who did they/do we think we are? The King of kings performed the healing but assigned the credit to You, commenting on the neglect from the other nine failing to thank You. Jesus always gives You the Glory. I’m embarrassed to read about the nine. I’m ashamed to recall how many times I’ve failed to thank You: beating heart, respiring lungs, metabolizing/detoxifying liver, infectious protective skin, optic mechanisms, hearing mechanisms, corporate worship, believing friends, forgiveness, Holy Spirit guidance, shelter, food, written word, Scripture, warmth, peace, family, sancti…..  Amen

WEEK 51, DAY 5, Thanksgiving: 1.  the expression of gratitude, especially to God; 2.  harvest festival celebrated by the Pilgrims in 1621.

Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth! Serve the LORD with gladness! Come into His presence with singing! Know that the LORD, He is God! It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Psalm 100: 1-3

WEEK 51, DAY 6, Thanksgiving

Enter His gates with Thanksgiving, and His courts with praise! Give thanks to Him; Bless his name! Psalm 100:4

WEEK 51, DAY 7, Thanksgiving

For the LORD is good; His steadfast love endures forever, and His faithfulness to all generations.  Psalm 100:5

  1.  As much or as many as required.
  2. Statement of indication one is unwilling to tolerate anymore of something undesirable
  3. To the required degree or extent
  4. To a moderate degree, fairly
  5. Used for emphasis
  6. Exclamation used to express an impatient desire for the cessation of undesirable behavior or speech.

And say to the rebellious house, to the House of Israel, ‘Thus says the Lord God: O House of Israel, ENOUGH of all your abominations, in admitting foreigners, uncircumcised in heart and flesh, to be in my sanctuary, from profaning my temple, when you offer to me my food the fat and the blood. You have broken my covenant in addition to all your abominations. And you have not kept charge of my holy things, but you have set others to keep my charge for you in my sanctuary. Ezekiel 44: 6-8.

Holy, Father, today we hear You. It is ENOUGH! (#6. Exclamation used to express an impatient desire for the cessation of undesirable behavior or speech). Open our eyes to how You assess our hearts, our little white lies, our passivity related to truth, our scheming of unfair weights, our deception to ourselves and others, our laissez-faire attitudes in our walk with You. The centuries have passed, and the Covenants have changed, but Your holiness is/was/will forever be the same. It is to our peril if we do not hear You when You tell us, it is “ENOUGH!”  Help us, Lord Jesus. Amen

“I (Jesus) am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know Him and have seen him.”  Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is ENOUGH (#3. to the required degree or extent) for us.”  Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?”             John 14:6-9

Lord Jesus, how have You tolerated our short-sightedness? Are we so different from Philip? We make up our own individual rules about what is “enough” all the while You are standing outside our doors knocking (Revelation 3:20), sitting with us proclaiming YHWH’s name in the midst of the ecclesia (Hebrews 2:12), and maintaining all creation by the power of Your Word (John 1:1-5). Please, Father, help us overcome ourselves to align our “enough” with Your Truth. We love You. Amen

Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has ENOUGH (#1. as much or as many as required) to complete it? Luke 14:28

Father, our Lord and King taught the bare knuckles truth about what He/You expect from believers, individually and corporately together. Counting the cost seems to be a consideration of what we are willing and what we are not willing to do. Sorting this out, O God, is difficult, not because it’s not understandable, but because it requires absolute honesty between self, the church, and You. I pray my decision is steadfast without wavering. If so, it is, because of Christ’s ENOUGH. Thank you, Father. Amen

(Forgive The Sinner). “Now if anyone has caused pain, he has caused it not to me, but in some measure—not to put it too severely—to all of you. For such a one this punishment by the majority is ENOUGH (#4To a moderate degree, fairly), so you should rather turn to forgive and comfort him.”        2 Corinthians 2:5-8

Father, You are the One and only God, the same yesterday, today, forevermore, and this word ENOUGH, like so many other words used by You have nuances with very different meanings. This singular word ENOUGH can indicate Your wrath and disgust, and in other instances Your tenderness and mercy. Help us to painstakingly read in context to understand what You mean. In the case of this sinner, extraordinary mercy is meant. May we extend mercy to others, Father. In Christ. Amen

ENOUGH (#2. Statement of indication one is unwilling to tolerate anymore of something undesirable).

A well-known seemingly erroneously labelled (‘learned helplessness’) process first nationally studied in the 1960’s had suggested that helplessness was ‘learned’ by no-escape from aversive stimuli resulting in no attempt to escape from other aversive stimuli. Later studies conclude electrochemically that “passivity and heightened anxiety are the default mammalian reactions to prolonged ‘bad events.’” That is, in order to consistently be able to indicate “I’ve had enough” indicating one will no longer tolerate any more exposure to something undesirable/painful/ unpleasant/incongruent with moral beliefs (e.g.), accumulated passivity and heightened anxiety must be cleared or overcome.

Accumulated chaos, consistent media bad news, global, racial, interpersonal, and financial worries, all have pummeled some into believing they cannot “do anything about any of this.”

(Paul to Philemon in Plea for Onesimus). “Accordingly, though I am bold ENOUGH in Christ to command you to do what is required, yet for love’s sake I prefer to appeal to you—I, Paul, an old man and now a prisoner also for Christ Jesus—I appeal to you for my child, Onesimus, whose father I became in my imprisonment. I am sending him back to you, sending my very heart. So, if you consider me your partner, receive him as you would receive me. If he has wronged you at all, or owes you anything, charge that to my account.” Philemon 1:8-12; 17-18

Righteous Father, our brother Paul lovingly found a way to bridge an unchartered gap by saying ENOUGH. If anyone who ever lived could claim passivity, fear of reprisal, anxiety, ‘learned helplessness,’ a belief of ‘it won’t help anyway,’ ‘besides I’m only one person,’ ‘what will my lonely prayers matter,’ it would have been Paul. Here he is an old man, imprisoned, having sustained years of verbal hatred and physical torture, yet dependent on Your Spirit to send this slave-now-Christian back to his owner for the healing of relationship in Christ. Will You steel our hearts from the evil one’s taunts, Father? He wants us to believe we must be passive and that there is no escape. Paul refused to believe this. Thank You for his steadfastness. Lead us into fidelity to You, no matter the cost. It is enough, In the Christ. Amen

ENOUGH (#5Used for emphasis). “Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us, for we have had more than ENOUGH of contempt. Our soul has had more than ENOUGH of the scorn of those who are at ease, of the contempt of the proud.” Psalm 123:3-4

Holy God, Jesus felt the weight of the billions of people who feel contempt for Him, past, present, and to come. Embarrassed and ashamed, I submit He has received contempt from all of us. We cry out, please help us stay the course. Will You receive our request for forgiveness as we consider each disobedience, lack of mercy, or uncaring remark is a stripe of contempt upon the Messiah’s back? ENOUGH from us, Heavenly Father. Amen

And Cornelius said, “Four days ago, about this hour, I was praying in my house at the ninth hour, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing and said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and your alms have been remembered before God. Send therefore to Joppa and ask for Simon who is called Peter. He is lodging in the house of Simon, a tanner, by the sea.’ So, I sent for you at once, and you have been kind ENOUGH to come. Now therefore we are all here in the presence of God to hear all that you have been commanded by the Lord.” Acts 10:30-33.

Father, thank You! Each one of us can do ENOUGH if we simply do what You have instructed. Cornelius had prayed and given alms, Your messenger delivered Your instructions to Cornelius, the servants Cornelius sent to Peter retrieved him, You sent a vision to Peter to go, Peter obeyed You in the face of previously known taboo, staying with a tanner and entering the house of a Gentile, and world changing gifts of life were shared with the Gentile world. Without this series of ENOUGH, I would not have opportunity to be Your child in Christ. This church would not exist because we are Gentiles. And worst of all, there would be no relationship with You Father, You Lord Jesus, and You Holy Spirit. Praise You Holy God for Your Ways of ENOUGH. Amen

The International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church designated as the first Sunday of each November is today November 7, 2021, co-founded in 1952 between the United States Congress and President Harry S. Truman. Christians across the world are being persecuted for their faith and desperately need our prayers daily. Will you begin a daily ongoing vigil for our brothers and sisters, starting today, never forgetting, never abandoning, and ever recalling that Our God knows the names of these beloved saints even if you don’t.

“And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach (gap) before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none.”  Ezekiel 22:30

Father, even the nations knew You meant what You said. There will be no pity for us if we ignore You and treat our faith as milk toast. Today is the day for us to call out to You in prayer for Your Church, the King’s Church. Amen

“What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel.

You do not have because you do not ask.

You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions. You adulterous people!”  James 4:1-4

The 2018 World Watch List includes the following as the top ten countries for religious persecution:

  1. North Korea and Eritrea                            6. Pakistan
  2. Afghanistan                                             7. Libya
  3. Myanmar                                                 8. Iraq
  4. Somalia                                                   9. Yemen
  5. Sudan                                                   10. India                     11. Iran

Holy, God. These are warnings to all of us. God hates our lies. Do we really love and pray for our brethren wherever they are? He hates our schemes. Do we honestly love and pray for our enemies as Jesus instructed? He hates our covetousness. Do we begrudge the time it takes to learn about the martyrs and pray for them as specifically as we can? Each one of us must face the mirror on our soul. Help us to clean up our own messes, Father, knowing we cannot ask You if we are lying to ourselves.

Our persecuted sisters and brothers are depending on us. Help us, Lord Jesus. Amen

You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’  But I (Jesus) say to you, “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you so that you many be sons of your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5: 43-45

Father God, Your ways are so contrary to the human will; Jesus made that abundantly clear. It’s hard to pray for someone who steals from us or lies to us, slanders us, or hurts our loved ones. Multiplied is our anguish praying for the enemy who persecutes your children in our own land and far away. But we know the King gave us this command “so that we may be sons/daughters of You.

We are grateful our country still recognizes the need for praying internationally for the persecuted. Help us resolve to do our parts for 365 days until the next IDOP reminds us to continue praying, O God. Amen

For He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good and sends rain on the just and the unjust. Matthew 5:45

Your mercy is beyond comprehension, Father. Your desire that no one perish, not the persecuted and not even the persecutor. Please stop the chaos, Father. Hear our voices. May they join millions who are praying for the faithful across all lands and may those who are persecuting be stopped and come to obedience to You. We ask the seemingly impossible, but even Saul in his zeal came to know he was dead wrong and repented. Revive us, Father. Starting here in Billings and moving across this nation. Revive us to “love our enemies and pray for those who persecute” and for those they persecute. By the Messiah’s words. Amen

For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? Matthew 5:46

Heavenly Father, we confess the cost of prayer, authentic fasting prayer, is heavy work. Yet, You hear each word, audible or not, each hope, spoken or not, and each cry of pain, expressed or not.  Please God, relieve the fear in our brethren wherever they are: mothers, fathers, families, singles, those imprisoned, those being starved, those being beaten, those who are abducted, those disowned by their families. Our prayers are all for the persecuted who cry out in need of the gracious, glorious Love of YHWH God. They are Your children. Please, Father, help. We love You, Father. Amen

And if you greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.  Matthew 5:47, 48

Father, Jesus showed Your LOVE everywhere He went to the Jews, the Gentiles, the Samaritans, the foreigners, to the rich, to the poor, to the created. He even gave the Pharisees and Sadducees, mistaken leaders of the law, opportunities to follow Him to You. This same Jesus commands us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us/all believers. So, as we pray for persecuted Christians, we must necessarily pray for those doing the persecution. Your ways, your glorious, difficult, perfect ways define what we are to do. Help us act in Your ways. Amen

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:10

Holy God, I cannot imagine the fear and hopelessness the 300 abducted Nigerian Christian teenage girls even now must be facing after six years of captivity. Some have been found. Others lost. But You know where they are, Father, and what they need. We do not know what to ask, but will You hear our plea for their safety and solace in You, Father? Will You give them hope for return to their families and healing of their traumatized souls? And the 317 schoolgirls taken from a boarding school in Nigeria in February, 2021. And the Christians left in Afghanistan? And the list goes on and on.

Please Father. The evil is so vile. And our brothers and sisters in India ask us to remember them in prayer, some of whom are succumbing to “honor killings.”

Now to Him Who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the Power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever.  Amen   Ephesians 3:20, 21

WEEK 48, DAY 1

But I say to you, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. Gal 5:16

Easier said than done, Father.  Those who love hiking know it’s just one more step that requires accomplishment. The next six miles come one step at a time. But in the hustle of daily rush, it’s easy to get caught up in the messes of life temporarily forgetting the Counselor and Guide. Learning how to be in relationship with You, and Jesus, and the Spirit is such the adventure. Thank you, Father.  Because of the Savior.  Amen

WEEK 48, DAY  2

For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. Gal 5: 17

Holy God, it would be nice to perfectly understand what the Spirit desires at any given moment.  And this oppositional tension between the Spirit and the flesh is often just a pain. Temptation and fatigue combine to become treacherous enemies.  But the faithful in Scripture knew this, and many just continued to walk with You, one step at a time.  I offer up the names of the souls unknown to me but absolutely known to You, who quietly, steadfastly, and determinedly walked/walk by the Spirit. Their example has left its mark on this world and even on the spirit world.  Today, Lord God, keep my wandering mind collected, and my soul walking with You.  Amen

WEEK 48, DAY  3

But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.  Gal 5: 18

What a relief we are not under the law, O God!

But…………it seems we cannot follow the lead of the Spirit without loving and knowing and being in relationship with Him.  Open our eyes to His guidance, Father, in faith, in joy, and even in laughter as we see how He stuns us with Your goodness.  Jesus received Him at His baptism, and mercifully sent Him to believers after His ascension. Of billions of humans, Christians are extravagantly blessed. Amen and amen

WEEK 48, DAY  4

But the fruit of the Spirit is love……..Gal 5:22

Besides the Names of the Father, the Son, the Spirit, this is my favorite word, righteous Father.

Without Love, nothing makes sense. None of the history of Your people would make any sense at all without the word, the concept, the action, the feeling, the freedom, and the mercy of LOVE.  And of course, why would any of it make sense without Love, since that is Who You are, Father.  So, today, we remember Your Nature, Holy God, the Great I AM, LOVE.  Amen

WEEK 48, DAY  5

But the fruit of the Spirit is joy, peace………Gal 5:22

Saying the words is one thing.

Learning to live in joy and peace is quite another.

Regardless what is happening today, help us walk as Jesus did.  May this day be dedicated to You in joy and peace. Amen

WEEK 48, DAY  6

But the fruit of the Spirit is ……….patience, kindness, goodness……………Gal 5:22

So, Father, patience is not my strongest suit. Nor does it seem to be for those rushing home from work. Or those in a grocery line. Yet, we each have 24 hours daily. Maybe kindness and goodness are the foundations for patience, for that has been Your gift to humans since You created us, this mysterious, difficult, and confounding act of patience. Help us not test Your patience, Father.  We love You. In the Son’s Name we pray. Amen

WEEK 48, DAY  7

But the fruit of the Spirit is ………………..faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.  If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.  Gal 5:23, 25

Keeping in step for the long haul, is difficult, Father.  But the alternative appears to be deadly. There is nowhere else we want to be.  So today, Heavenly Father, thank you for sending Your Son, then sending Your Spirit, and allowing us to be in fellowship with You and each other.  Because of Christ. Amen

WEEK 47, DAY 1

“Holy, holy, holy!

Lord God Almighty.

Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee.

Holy, holy, holy!

Merciful and mighty.

God in Three Persons, (Father, Son, Holy Spirit),  Matthew 28:19

Blessed Trinity.”

Our Holy God, may we sing and pray and cherish these words all the days of our lives, here and in the life to come.  Amen and amen

WEEK 47, DAY 2

“Holy, holy, holy!

All the saints (holy ones, believers under Old and New Covenants,) adore Thee,

Casting down their golden crowns around the crystal sea. Revelation 4:3

Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee,

Who was and is and evermore shall be.”

Praying these songs of praise with attention to each word, in individual cadence allows us to focus on Your enormity and how our brothers and sisters generationally have worshipped You.  Receive our prayers, O God.  Amen

WEEK 47, DAY 3

“Holy, holy, holy!

Tho’ the darkness hide Thee,

Tho’ the eye of sinful man Thy Glory, Psalm 24:10, may not see.

Only Thou art Holy;

There is none beside Thee.

Perfect in power, in love and purity.”

Holy God, You, and Your Son, and Your Spirit beckon us each moment to rise above the surrounding darkness perpetuated by the one who is not pure, who has lost his glory, and has only temporary power You allow him. Disturbing shock is the feeling associated with knowing he once was with You yet threw it all away. If this could happen in one who has been in Your Presence, it signals how vigilant we humans must be.  Please Father, help us keep our attention and obedience riveted on You. Jesus warned the believers countless times. We welcome the strength Holy Spirit brings us and are grateful.  Amen

WEEK 47, DAY 4

All Thy works shall praise YOUR NAME, in earth and sky and sea.

Holy, holy, holy.

Merciful and mighty.

God in Three Persons,

Blessed Trinity.”  (John 14:15-17)

Righteous Father, Jesus told His disciples He would not leave them as orphans.  Neither do You leave us as orphans no matter how humanly isolated and alone we may feel.  May we resolve to move closer to You, with recognition it is only possible by the saving work of Christ and ongoing guidance of Your Spirit.

Help us ignore the chaos of temptations; better yet, help prepare answers in Jesus to the evil one prior to his assaults. Today is Your Creation.  Receive our adoration, O Lord our God.  Amen

WEEK 47, DAY 5

Holy God, we exclaim Your Holiness, all day long today.

In Jesus.

WEEK 47, DAY 6

Holy God the Father, Holy God the Son and Savior, Holy God the Spirit of Truth, we extol Your Relationship with One Another and Your offer of relationship with us.

Through the Christ.

WEEK 47, DAY 7

And all the saints exclaim, we adore You Almighty God, King of kings, and Spirit of Truth and marvel You not only created and hear us but died for us and now indwell us because of Your work and our acceptance of Your invitation. Nothing can compare. Nothing is more priceless.  Nothing is more undeserved.  But nothing exceeds Your love.

Forever, be it so.

DAILY CONGREGATIONAL PRAYERS, WEEK 46, 10.17-23.2021, SPIRIT WORLD vs spirit world

WEEK 46, DAY 1

Be sober minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour. Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.  1 Peter 5:8, 9

Whether one likes it or not, over the past several years the media have brought most of us face to screen interaction with input from the entire world making naivete of world conditions impossible. Father, the evil one seems interspersed in myriad situations, similar to the mountain lions roaming the hills this summer and autumn. A bone chilling thought. Do not let us succumb to his ploys, dear God, and don’t let us make embarrassed excuses for what is evil.  Lulled by a sense of false security and complacency, our lives could be spent by the father of lies.  Today, help us remember, indeed the evil one wants us to leave You, Father. Peter tells us to be sober minded and watchful. Help us do just that, O LORD.  Amen

WEEK 46, DAY 2

When Jesus had stepped out of the boat (onto the land of the Gerasenes), immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit. He lived among the tombs. No one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain, for he had often been bound with shackles and chains, but he wrenched the chains apart, and he broke the shackles in pieces. No one had the strength to subdue him. Night and day among the tombs and on the mountains he was always crying out and cutting himself with stones. Mark 5:1-5

When Jesus had stepped out on land, there met Him a man from the city who had demons (Legion). Luke 8:27

Father, it makes no sense for scriptures concerning demons/unclean spirits to be available to us if You didn’t want us to be informed about and guarded against the demonic realm. I must confess these are difficult for most of us as our culture denies their very existence except in uninstructed and self-constructed ways.  That said, our Lord Jesus interacted with and was known by the demons and the evil one himself. The Savior is divine. I am not. He is all powerful. I am not. He saved me/is saving me from the evil inside and outside of me. Holy God, I have nothing to give back to You/Your Son/Holy Spirit except my belief in You Three in One. Why You want me is Your business. I’m just grateful You do!!  Like the man who had demons, You want us as Your own. Amen

WEEK 46, DAY 3

And when he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and fell down before Him. And crying out with a loud voice, he said, “What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure (request earnestly) You by God, do not torment me.”  Mark 5:6, 7

Father, just as they do now, the demons recognized Jesus and begged Him not to torment them. The end will one day come when there will be no more evil. And Satan will be conclusively judged and punished. Until then, this tedious work of being hunted and hounded by anything that is not of You continues. Tiresome are my sinful choices, Father. Wearisome are the presentations the devil taunts. Confusing are the options. And fleshly is this earth life. This man in whom was housed Legion knew this better than most.  Help us look and thereby see, Father.  Help us listen and thereby hear. Help us ponder and thereby believe all the days of our lives until You come Lord Jesus to take us home. Amen

WEEK 46, DAY 4

For Jesus had said to him “Come out of the man you unclean spirit!” Mark 5:8

The demonic bondage of Legion in this man, while more powerful than the lone human, was no match for the Anointed One.

Alone, we have no chance. With You, Lord Jesus Son of God, the evil one and his demons have no chance.

Come out of all of us, unclean spirits of faithlessness, anger, superiority, mercilessness, pride, doubt, envy, deceit as we are covered by the Messiah’s blood. May the evil in us be vanquished in Christ. Amen

WEEK 46, DAY 5

Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” He replied, “My name is Legion, for we are many.” Mark 5:9 Jesus then asked him, “What is your name?” And he said, “Legion,” for many demons had entered him. Luke 8:30

Righteous Father, two meticulous Gospel writers have detailed this account in such a way we realize we are to take notice as surely as when Jesus calmed a storm (Mark 4 and Luke 8), and when Jesus healed a woman in a chaotic pressing crowd telling her to not fear, only believe (Mark 5 and Luke 8).

Are we to believe there is such a thing as demonic bondage, Father?  Paul wrote in Colossians 2:8ff: See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits/principles of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in Him, who is the head of all rule and authority.

Not surprisingly, these words of Paul address a huge concern.  Father, in our culture, ignorance is not a defense of the law.  How much more important is this subject.  Open our minds to You, O God, and keep us faithful to You alone.  Amen

WEEK 46, DAY 6

And they (the unclean spirits/demons in the man) begged Him (Jesus) not to command them to depart into the abyss (a seemingly bottomless pit; the chasms of hell). Now a large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside, and they begged Him to let them enter these. So, He gave them permission. Then the demons came out of the man and entered the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and drowned. Luke 8:31-33

Righteous Father, we understand You have given us the Word for instruction, guidance, understanding, and for establishing deeper relationship with You. Millenia have passed in Your magnificent plan attended by Your steadfast, solid, unshakable love for Your created. How is it that some who were once in Your Presence abdicated their devotion to You?  How is it there are demons and unclean spirits anyway?  How is it I/we can be misled? Or disobey You?

And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made (you) alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling (erasing) the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This He set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed (deprived of power, divested Himself of) the rulers (probably demonic rulers) and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in Him (or in it, i.e., the cross). Colossians 2: 13- 15

We are grateful, entirely grateful as You have brought us from death to life in the work of the cross in Christ and by Your Spirit.  Amen

WEEK 46, DAY 7

When the herdsmen saw what had happened, they fled and told it in the city and in the country. Then people went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had gone, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind, and they were afraid. And those who had seen it told them how the demon-possessed man had been healed. Luke 8:34-36

Sitting at the feet of Jesus can be scary for those who don’t believe You, Holy God. It seems paradoxical the chaos was gone, but the villagers were afraid. The demons were gone, but the people were afraid. The man was in his right mind now, yet the others were afraid. It seems humans can mistake peace for danger and conversely, danger for peace.  I do not envy Adam and Eve in their beguilement by the serpent (Genesis 3:1-7), and what is so different when I am deceived? When spouses or friends are deceived? When congregations are deceived? When cities of people are deceived? When whole nations are deceived?

Your Son, Your Spirit, You Holy God are powerful, and You invite us to be steadfast (hang on in firm determination). In Your patience, mercifully You still receive our confession, repentance, and maturation process because of the perfect work of Jesus, Son of Man, Son of God.  We love You, Father. Amen and amen.

DAILY CONGREGATIONAL PRAYERS, Week 45, Oct. 10-16,2021, spirit world vs Spirit World

WEEK 45, DAY 1    Spirit World/spirit world

Have you ever felt a tug of war going on in your soul?

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already. 1 John 4:1-3

Father, there is so much unbelief, misconception about the supernatural, and smoke and mirrors emanating from our television sets, social media, and from powers and principalities, that it’s difficult to sort out what is true and what isn't. Unwittingly, humans are the product of programming from their cultures. Vision must be clear, and only You, Jesus, and Holy Spirit know the real Truth of the unseen world. It is our intent to learn from You, O God.  Amen

WEEK 45, DAY 2    spirit world/Spirit World

Have you ever glimpsed the glory of God and tasted perfect peace, if only for a moment?

Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are from the world; therefore, they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of Truth and the spirit of error. 1 John 4:4-6

Righteous Father, it is good, at least to me, that one of the sons of Thunder at the time of his youth was later appointed and able to share such mercy and tenderness with believers past and present. Thank you for John and his brother James. Thank you for Peter and his brother Andrew who first brought Peter to the Lord Jesus. Until we have close-up relationship with You, our rough and tumble independent ideas can overtake us, but standing in Your presence, the rough edges are worn off and somehow Your Glory is manifest in us by You, Your Son, and Spirit of Truth. Thank you for including us. Praise You Holy God for including us. Amen

WEEK 45, DAY 3    Spirit World/spirit world

Have you ever felt confused in your pursuit of righteousness?

But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the spirit is life because of righteousness. Romans 8: 10

Father, we will meditate and pray this scripture today, seeking the spirit of life and righteousness, not just in concept but in belief and whatever action You command.  May the Spirit lead us into life as Your Son has paid the infinite price.  Amen

WEEK 45, DAY 4    spirit world/Spirit World

Have you ever decided to stand your ground?

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. Romans 8:5-6

A two-year-old bull, full of himself, refused to be driven from the pastures into the barn lot and turned of a sudden in charge at the 13yo. At a distance which could not be covered quickly enough, the dad yelled to her, “stand your ground.”  At the time, it made no sense to the scared 13yo, and demise seemed eminent. But the girl’s father persisted in coaching her through a difficult situation which turned out exactly the way he said it would. He didn't leave her. He didn't fuss at her. And he came to her aid with the only tool he had available to him at the time, his loving yet persistent words.

It occurs to me, Father God, the dad who helped the girl was simultaneously being helped by his Father, You. It could not have been easy for the human father to watch his child being put in danger in this sudden turn of events. Yet, it was a steppingstone for her to face much bigger and scarier evil battles that would follow in years to come.  How merciful You are to guard us, lead us, teach us, forgive us, and save us, all along the way preparing us for spiritual battles taking place in and around us. We can't stand our ground alone, Father. Thank You for each steppingstone, each lesson, each blessing, and for the Christ Who has already been there. Amen

WEEK 45, DAY 5    Spirit World/spirit world

Have you ever gazed upon a full moon in all its radiance and reckoned its pallor compared to God's Spirit?

For as the new heavens and the new earth that I make shall remain before me, says the Lord, so shall your offspring and your name remain. From new moon to new moon, and from Sabbath to Sabbath, all flesh shall come to worship before me, declares the Lord. Isaiah 66: 22- 23

Traveling Montana this autumn punctuates the magnitude of Your creative beauty and generosity to us, O God. Stunning color and contrast found in grasses, plants, animals, skies, seas, and in the human eye exposes Your Glory. No evil spirit can do this.  Only You, Father.  It is only You. The heavenly realm cries:

Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!” Isaiah 6: 1-3

And we believers exclaim: Amen and amen and amen.

WEEK 45, DAY 6    spirit world/Spirit World

Have you ever been blindsided (attack from an unexpected position, caught unprepared) by a teacher, a professor, a friend, a colleague, a brother, a sister, a spouse, a Christian, your pet?

The Pharisees came and began to argue with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven to test Him. And He sighed deeply and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.” Mark 8: 11-12

Righteous Father, I can only imagine what this means when Jesus “sighed deeply.”  Some days, the weight of living seems out of proportion to the sum of its parts. I wonder, Father, if this is because there is chaos in parts unseen to mankind. You have given us vision into a three-dimensional world.

But to some, You have shown a realm of spirits and have given many scriptural examples of human/spirit/ Spirit interface. John, the beloved disciple wrote of his interaction with an angel in Revelation 22. Peter “saw the heavens opened and something like a great sheet descending, being let down by its four corners upon the earth. Rise, Peter, kill and eat. What God has made clean, do not call common.” (Acts 10). Paul was given a thorn in the flesh so he would not boast after being caught up into the third heaven (2 Corinthians 12). An angel was detained 21 days in the “kingdom of Persia, but Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I was left there with the kings of Persia, and came to make you (Daniel) understand what is to happen to your people in the latter days. For the vision is for days yet to come.” Daniel 10. And a man who was tormented by an unclean spirit, Legion, was cleansed by Jesus. Mark 5

I do not believe we are to dismiss these scriptures out of hand simply because they are difficult, touching on subjects our culture is not programmed to understand or even believe exist. Help us listen, meditate, ask, and seek. It seems there is much more to this life than we recognize. You tell us to know the enemy. Help us do our part in preparation and understanding about how we are sometimes blindsided. We ask this in Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen

WEEK 45, DAY 7    Spirit World/spirit world

Have ever allowed Holy Spirit to lead you?

Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. 1 Corinthians 2: 12.

We pray this in the Savior’s Name.     Amen

A man's spirit will endure sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear? Proverbs 18: 14

What is spirit? What/Who is Spirit?  How is it humans have spirit?  How is it humans have been given Spirit? Who can claim to have spirit? Who can claim Spirit?  Do animals have spirit (Who knows whether the spirit of man goes upward and the spirit of the beast goes down into the earth? Ecclesiastes 3: 21)

Is God spirit? God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. John 4: 23, 24

Righteous Father, there are many questions concerning the spirit world and the Spirit world.  You desire much for Your children, and it would seem these subjects are as important to You as any.  The spirits of many have been crushed in mortal life.  Today we request Your safeguards for this group prayer and discernment that pleases You.  We love You, Father.  Amen.

Restore to me the joy of your salvation and uphold me with a willing spirit. Psalm 51: 12

Definition spirit:  Part 1.  (Noun) the nonphysical part of a person which is the seat of emotions and character; the nonphysical part of a person regarded as the true self and as capable of surviving physical death or separation.

Heavenly Father, Your word is replete with annotations regarding The Holy Spirit, The Spirit of Truth, willing spirit, evil spirit, spirits both evil and righteous, etc., and our job is to be discerning.  That responsibility is impossible without You.  So, today, may we be willing.  May we be willing to peer into the spirit world You have given to us and remain faithful to You alone, in Christ. Amen

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Psalm 51: 10

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4: 1

Righteous Father, You prize a “right spirit” in Your children, telling us to test the spirits.  Alone, it is clear I am no match for the ugliness, death, betrayal, mean spirits of the flesh in others and in myself.  Simply walking in a public park, driving on the highway, entering workplaces, engaging with others, listening to the world news, shopping at grocery stores, all have become treacherous these past two years.  I need help, Father.  Will You create a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me?  Keep me safe from evil spirits, shielded by the blood of Christ.  Amen

For this reason, I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:6, 7

Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. 1 Corinthians 2:12

Enough of this fear, O God.  You gave me a spirit of power and love and self-control.  By the Christ’s work, I reject spirit of fear, spirit of timidity, spirit of evil.  Today is Your day, Your work Your will, and Your Spirit.  Amen

But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship Him. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. John 4: 23, 24

Father, may my worship to You be in spirit and truth.  The opposite of truth is deceit, and it is too easy to slip/slide/muddle/smile our ways into deceit.

Today, Father, keep me in the Truth, in your Spirit of Truth, in communion with You, The Son, The Spirit. Amen

As the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self (man), which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians4: 21-24

For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. Romans 8: 15, 16

And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my savior, for He has looked on the humble estate of His servant.” Luke 1: 46-48

Righteous Father, our predecessors displayed courage and rejected slavery of fear.  Today, Father, is the Day of the Lord.  Tomorrow is the Day of the Lord.  Next year, is the Day of the Lord. And it is my desire to remember to honor the Day of the Lord, now and forever.  In Christ, I reject the spirit of slavery of fear.  Amen

Now the Spirit of the Lord departed from (King) Saul, and a harmful spirit from the Lord tormented him. 1 Samuel 16: 14

My spirit is broken; my days are extinct; the graveyard is ready for me. Job 17: 1

Holy God, there is much ahead to explore of the spirit world and the Spirit world. The tragedies in lives throughout the millennia so often linked to ignorance and disobedience of Your Ways, cause heartache even today…………….because, as humans, we are but a breath away from ignorance and disobedience. My deepest regrets have been related to both ignorance and disobedience, either in myself or in other people.  At those times, my spirit has been truly broken in such a way, life seemed impossible.  But the Christ was not broken, and as His child, sister, brother, neither are we.  Impossible gift, impossible glory, and outrageous and impossible love You, Your Son, and Your Spirit have given to us.  Amen

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Ephesians 4: 30

Holy God, we have been preparing for this week by praying scripture written by Your inspired word.  Fear associated with offending the Holy Spirit exists in the hearts of many precious believers.  But fear separates us from You.  Will You help us meditate and pray for understanding AND trust of the merciful love You have waiting for us?  The Messiah defeated the author of fear, the evil one, and today, we claim victory over him by the blood of our Savior. May we grow ever closer to the Holy Spirit Whom the Christ and You have sent.  Amen

There is no Fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because he first loved us. 1 John 4:18-19

There is no Fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because he first loved us. 1 John 4:18-19

Father, in private I present my fears to You.  Lead me to perfect love.  Amen

There is no Fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because he first loved us. 1 John 4:18-19

Father, show me how to love Your Holy Spirit, not just in belief but in relationship.  Amen

There is no Fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because he first loved us. 1 John 4:18-19

Father, I want to be as close to Holy Spirit as our Lord Jesus was when led by Him in the wilderness for forty days.  Please lead me in truth without lying to myself.  Amen

There is no Fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because he first loved us. 1 John 4:18-19

Father, show me what I am fearing today.  Amen

There is no Fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because he first loved us. 1 John 4:18-19

Jesus overcame His own desire to avoid the cross by the help of Holy Spirit who empowered Him throughout His ministry from the time of His baptism.  Then upon His ascension, He sent Holy Spirit to believers for sharing in that same empowerment. Astounding. Help us believe this, Father.  Amen

There is no Fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because he first loved us. 1 John 4:18-19

Today, Father, alone with You, and the Savior, and the Spirit of Truth, we confess our fears, and rejoice in Your love.  Amen and amen.
